What Your Body Language Says About You

Date: 07-Dec-2011

photoBody language says a lot about the attitude of a person. It plays a major role in group discussions and personal interviews as well. Bad gestures can spoil the image of a person even if he/she is highly talented and brilliant. So, here are some gestures that you should avoid and some that you should adopt while attending a Group Discussion and an Interview.

Maintain appropriate eye contact: Try to maintain eye contact with everyone while you are speaking. You should not neglect anyone and avoid looking at the ceiling and floor, as it signifies that you are not confident enough.

Don’t sit with crossed legs/arms: This may show lack of respect and creates a feeling that you are not ready to accept other people’s viewpoints.

Control your expressions: Even if you get angry or sad, never let your face express it. Don’t smile or laugh unnecessarily.

Don’t move your legs: moving legs shows impatience and lack of interest. Even if you get bored or lose patience, try to appear enthusiastic and patient.

Be comfortable: Don’t sit in a stiff manner, neither should you move restlessly in your chair. Sit straight and be comfortable in your position.

Nodding: Nod your head once in a while to make everyone feel that you are listening. But it is better not to overdo.

Maintain your tone: try to talk in a calm and composed manner, which indicates that you are not stressed and is confident.

Control your hands: Don’t point your fingers at anyone; move it in a gentle manner. Avoid scratching, rubbing and playing with pen, key chain etc.

Don’t knock the table with your hand or pen. This may create an aggressive image of you in the mind of other people.
