About Institute
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut was established in the year 1961 by the Government for imparting technical education in the state of Kerala. Located at Kozhikode (Calicut) in Kerala, NITC is a federally funded technical university established by an Act of the Indian Parliament.
National Institute of Technology Calicut started as Regional Engineering College, Calicut (CREC) and was affiliated with the Kerala University till the formation of the Calicut University in 1963. The Institute has been approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
It has now been declared as a federally funded technical university established by an Act of the Indian Parliament (running on non-profit basis) through a notification issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Dept. of Higher Education), New Delhi.
