About Institute
The Institute of Management Development & Research, Pune was established in 1974 as a constituent unit of the Deccan Education Society, by Padmashree R.T. Doshi and Sri Sumatilal S. Shah.
As an institution we believe in developing our unique perspective about Management thought and practice in the Indian context. The heritage of self-reliance and self-renewal given to us by the luminaries of the DE Society underlies the Self Driven Learning System (SDLS) which is the basis of courses at IMDR. Thus we believe in developing performers who take charge of themselves and the situation, and contribute to the organization that they are a part of.
The students at IMDR go through a Curriculum process that has been designed according to the Instructional System Design Methodology. The basic disciplines from which management is drawn are dealt with in the first year and applied integrative and applied functional subjects are dealt with in the second year of the programme.
